On Saturday, February 25th and Sunday, February 26th, Smorgasburg Miami, Miami’s largest outdoor-food market, will be partnering up with Derrick Turton from World Famous House of Mac to celebrate Black History Month.
Turton attended culinary school but ended up managing rapper, Pitbull, for 12 years and worked with numerous hip hop royalty. His father’s sudden death in 2013 reignited his love for cooking and he now has three restaurants serving 17 gourmet variations of Mac & cheese including a Jerk Mac & Cheese as well as Jerk pizzas.
The weekend celebrations will honor Black History Month with a live Junkanoo parade, steel drum music and a stilt dancer by Island Groove Entertainment. Junkanoo performers decked in colorful costumes and masks will lead the parade with cow bells, whistles, drums and a horn player. Children will receive whistles and join the parade. There’ll be live performances by reggae artist Sherine Campbell and guitarist Kenzy Lafrance. DJ King Dave will be spinning from his mobile stage.
Smorgasburg Miami will be decorated with flags and banners celebrating Black History Month.
On the culinary side, Smorgasburg’s vendors and guest vendors will showcase special dishes that will only be available during this weekend celebration. Guest vendors include Island Cooking with Afrochef Lela with Caribbean Jerk Chicken, Wholly Smoke BBQ with Southern Smoked Brisket, Naomi’s Garden with popular Baked Chicken, Eat Inn Cheat with Healthy Soul Food, Kome Oyster and Sushi Bar with Ribs, collard greens and World Famous House of Mac with of course, gourmet Jerk mac and cheese and more.
